Patriots Pen essay

Why I am an American Patriot!

An American Patriot is one who loves, supports, and defends his/her country and its interests with pride and devotion. An American Patriot stands proudly; hand over heart, to recite the Pledge of Allegiance or the Star Spangled Banner. An American Patriot celebrates Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veterans Day while pondering the deaths and sacrifices that have preserved this country that we have the privilege of living in today. American Patriots are proud the United States is often the first to respond with humanitarian aid to those in need anywhere in the world.

Every day in school I recite the Pledge of allegiance. I stand tall, eyes on the flag, hand over heart, and I speak proudly as I recite the words spoken by thousands before me. " I Pledge allegiance to the flag..." I am an American Patriot.

Every Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veterans Day I think of the endless rows of white tombstones and all the American heroes who died fighting for our independence and freedom. They died protecting a vision of what would someday become America. They had a sense of duty that inspired them to risk their lives to make the United States of America the greatest country on earth. I am an American Patriot.

America Has a powerful military force made up of brave, strong and unforgettable people. I know that the United States is determined to spread democracy and freedom throughout the world. I have pride in our nation's accomplishments and leadership in world affairs. I am an American Patriot.

I honor America's veterans. soldiers, and patriots by learning about our history. I know that it is important every day to pay attention, listen and comprehend lessons and lectures that teach us about our past. Knowledge of the sacrifices that have been made to give us our freedom and the great country that we live in is a crucial ingredient in the recipe that makes an American Patriot. I am an American Patriot.

I am proud that the United States is such a generous country. It warms my heat to see Americans helping people in horrible situations like Darfur. When I watch the news and see starvation, sickness and death I know that the United States cares and is trying to help. I am an American Patriot.

Remember not all patriots are in uniform. I am an American Patriot! Are you?

Voice of Democracy essay

My Role in Honoring America's Veterans

Imagine...Watching your fellow soldiers and friends falling at your side as you charge the enemy. Gun Shots going off in every direction, smoke filling the air. Darkness, confusion, pain...you are an American soldier fighting for your country. You have decided to play your role in defending the freedom of America and you have become a Veteran because of it. Every American also has a decision to make: "How will I honor these men and women who have served our nation so well?"

We all have a role to play in honoring our Veterans  am Memorial Day and Veterans Day are set aside for just this purpose. On Memorial Day, Americans gather in cemeteries all across this country to pay their respects to our Veterans. It is a day of heartfelt thanks for all for all the people who have made the life that we live today possible. Every year my family visits the National Cemetery to honor our fallen heroes. We spend the time in silence reflecting on the importance of every headstone and what each soldier sacrificed for America's freedom. We can honor our Veterans everyday. Whenever I see our men and women traveling in uniform I say "hello" and thank them for their service to our country. I've written letters with my classmates and my family has sent care packages to soldiers serving overseas. With these small gestures I am honoring America's Veterans.

The American flag is a true symbol of what America stands for. It represents the sacrifices our Veterans have made for this country. Treating our flag with respect and venerating the sacrifices of America's Veterans is a part of our role in honoring them. My Grandfather raises the American flag every morning and then takes it down again every night. He is a Veteran himself and continues to honor his fellow Americans through this simple act. Every time I visit him, for as long as I can remember, we have gone through his daily routine together...slowly raising the flag in the morning, careful not to let it touch the ground, ensuring that the knot is secure, and then remaining silent for a moment in order to absorb its beauty and importance. When the day is through, we slowly lower the flag, once again never letting it touch the ground, then meticulously fold the flag in the traditional triangle. It is then placed on a shelf of prominence until the next morning when all of the steps are lovingly repeated. I have learned through example from my Grandfather that every little action counts in honoring America's Veterans.

I play a role in honoring our Veterans by saying the Pledge of Allegiance in school and singing the National Anthem at events with my hand over my heart, demonstrating my respect for our flag. My generation honors America's Veterans by studying our nation's history in order to better understand the sacrifices our soldiers have made to defend and protect our freedom. America's Veterans have given us a great nation. It is our role to honor them by being good citizens, becoming involved, and staying informed. My generation must understand the Constitution, become educated voters, participate in government and understand the threats to our liberty. It is our duty to defend our country, and become true Americans just like the Veterans we follow. They have set high standards and it is our role to fill their footsteps and strive for even greater achievements.

Give thanks to America's men and women in uniform, to the Veterans who have served before them, and to all the Americans who will defend our country in the future. Let them know that they are appreciated and that our nation is grateful. We must all play a role in honoring our Veterans and our country. As George Washington, the first President of the United States once said, "The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the Veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their nation." I proudly accept my role in honoring America's Veterans and I Will to do so for the rest of my life.
